7th ANNUAL DOWNTOWN BURBANK ARTS FESTIVAL, APRIL 24 AND 25
This four-block salute to the creative arts is one of the largest in the region, and is produced by Downtown Burbank Partnership in collaboration with the Burbank Arts Education Foundation and West Coast Artists. The contemporary art selection will include paintings, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, fiber art, fine glass, woodwork, mixed-media and photography, and will be centered on San Fernando Boulevard between Magnolia Boulevard and Olive Avenue. Live entertainment, street painting, art demonstrations and free workshops will add to the fun.
The festival will also devote an entire city block on Orange Grove between 1st and 3rd Streets to Burbank students and their work. Included will be interactive art projects, performances, demonstrations and plenty of opportunities for creative self-expression. There will be raffles, opportunity baskets and chances to contribute to the Burbank Arts Education Foundation (BAEF), a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring permanent and equal access to quality arts education for all of Burbank´s 15,000 students.
Attendees can try out musical instruments at the Musical Petting Zoo and Burbank Music Academy booths, or can donate their old band or string instruments at the Instrument Amnesty booth, where they will be given a tax donation letter on the spot. There will be a Chalk yard, where people can test their skills at "painting" with chalk on the street, and a 5´ by 20´ Art Wall, where all are welcome to add their creative touch. Plus, aspiring filmmakers can collaborate on mini-movies at the Freshi Films booth.
There will be architecture projects provided by Woodbury University, recycled art courtesy of the Burbank Senior Artist Colony and the Burroughs High School Environmental Club, and a Main Stage with music, dance and theatrical performances all weekend presented by Burbank Unified School District students, and more. A Crazy Hat Creation station, the Crayola Art Zone and the M.U.D. Clay Booth, with the opportunity to throw clay and learn how to sculpt, will complete this weekend of inspired activities.
Founded by Downtown Burbank Partnership in 2003, the Downtown Burbank ARTS Festival is a bi-annual event produced in partnership with West Coast Artists. The spring festival has focused on emerging artists with the BAEF since 2008, while the fall show always spotlights contemporary artists and craftsmen.
